The truth about a building, before you move in.
What never shows up in the listing: the upstairs neighbor's footsteps, mold in the bathroom corner, the trash room in summer, the 6am train. Former tenants tell you what it was really like, so you can decide with real information.
Our mission
When you move into an apartment, the things that actually matter never show up in the listing: how loud the upstairs neighbor is, what the temperature is like in January, whether the property manager answers messages, whether bugs show up in summer. We collect these from people who lived there, alongside technical data, so you can make a better decision.
How scores work
- The score appears after the first approved review, along with the number of reviews it's based on.
- Confidence level is shown honestly: building up (1-2 reviews), low (3-5), medium (6-14), high (15+).
- Categories are averages across: quiet, smell, temperature, water, cleanliness, pests, management, area.
- Without reviews, we show the building's technical features and the pin stays neutral on the map.
How review access works
Reviews are open to people who contribute: leave a review about an address where you lived, and you get access to all of them.
- Anyone can see the score, categories, flagged-issue tags, the first review partially, and the total count.
- The full text of other reviews unlocks after your first approved review.
- Your review can stay fully anonymous or show a display name of your choice. Your email always stays private.
Data in the live bar
The bar on the homepage shows a few public data points, localized to your detected city and refreshed every 60 seconds:
- Local time: based on your detected time zone.
- Air quality: European Air Quality Index, with official terminology (Good, Fair, Moderate, Poor, Very Poor, Extremely Poor). Source: Open-Meteo.
- Temperature: measured at 2m. Source: Open-Meteo.
- Documented buildings: the count from the CheckYourPlace database, filtered to the detected city; if we have no local data, we show the national total.

Why you can trust CheckYourPlace
Every review goes through moderation before it is published. Developers cannot buy scores and cannot delete real experiences. Your data stays yours: reviews appear publicly anonymous if you choose that, and your account is never sold or shared with anyone.
Moderation rules
- Reviews describe observable conditions about the building, never neighbors or identifiable people.
- Apartment numbers are never published, only general positions: ground floor, mid-level floor, top floor, street-facing or courtyard-facing.
- Every review goes through moderation before it's published.
- Technical data is informational and shown for reference only, with its source noted.
